Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.
Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
